The Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro is an update on the wildly popular previous generation 2,000W Explorer model. This review investigates what has changed and what has remained the same.

In essence, the Explorer 2000 Pro is very much the same as the original model. This being a 2,200W inverter with a 4,400W surge capacity and the ability to charge the lithium-ion battery using various power sources – 120V wall charger, 12V car charger, or solar panels.

It doesn’t look all that different from the Jackery Explorers that so many have come to love and trust. So, what’s changed?

Review:

As solar-powered portable battery power stations (AKA solar generators) have grown in popularity, competition in this sector has become rampant. Jackery has answered the call for more power and increased battery storage with the Explorer Pro series, allowing up to 5 additional batteries to be connected to increase your battery time.

The Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro is second from the top of their lineup of compact solar generators, following the super-power Explorer 3000 Pro.

The 2,200/4,400W Explorer 2000 Pro is obviously cheaper than the top model but is quite competent and will supply most of your home power needs during an outage. It will easily run a refrigerator or air conditioner, plus a microwave oven and most of your household appliances simultaneously.

One of the improvements I’m delighted to observe on the Pro series is the ability to provide through charge. This means that the Explorer 2000 Pro can supply power to the AC outlets whilst charging the battery. It can function as an uninterruptable power supply (UPS). This offers seamless power transition when the lights go out.

The mobile app is another new addition, providing you with real-time operating information on your smartphone and a bunch of useful remote-control functions.

While the single 2,160WH battery is a bit restricting, only expect it to run a refrigerator for about 2 to 5 hours, you can extend your time by adding additional batteries. With 5 extension batteries, you could keep your home or RV powered up for several days.

With the full battery extension pack and 6 X 200W Solar Saga solar panels, you can achieve almost full off-grid autonomy. In most situations, the available sunlight vs battery storage should mean continuous solar power without running out of battery capacity. Though solar is, by its nature, unpredictable. We never know when the clouds could move in and reduce charging capacity.

Of course, you always have the option of using the 120V AC wall charger which will fully charge the single internal battery within 2 hours. On long road trips, you can also use the 12V car charger which takes 24 hours to charge the battery.

Although the Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro is primarily marketed as a camping generator, it’s not waterproof and should, therefore, not be used outdoors in wet weather. Having said this, it seems able to withstand a fair amount of splash. However, I wouldn’t recommend testing this hypothesis. Using an inverter in wet conditions is never a good idea.

In terms of portable versatility, the Explorer 2000 Pro is wonderful. It weighs 43 pounds, which really isn’t bad for a portable battery power station with over 2,000 watts of usable power on demand at any time. It measures 15.1” in height, 10.5” width, and 12.1” depth. It’s an easy device to take camping and tailgating.

Jackery have established themselves as one of the leaders in outdoor battery power quite early in the game. Their reputation for good value products has become unquestioned. With a 3-year warranty and proven customer service, the Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro is one of your best options in this highly competitive market.
